I too thought that Steve was insane when I first saw him on "Crocodile Hunter." He could come across that way, especially when he was excited/upset (i.e., when he was responding to criticism over the incident with baby Bob and the croc). But it was clear he adored his family, that he knew what he was doing.
I always did suspect that Steve would get killed in a freak accident -- that he knew it, too, and Terri knew it, but he would never give up what he did because he loved it too much and believed in it too strongly.
