From [livejournal.com profile] rum_inspector: Hey, I think this might actually be the plot for one of RTD farewell Doctor Who specials, maybe the Christmas one! xD

Your challenge is to write crossover fanfiction combining Titanic and Around the World in 80 Days.
The story should use a malevolent artificial intelligence as a plot device!

My brother's reaction is what makes that last one priceless: "Ew, he has a vagina?! I KNEW it!"

Superheroes

Obligatory smexy picture of Elektra

Yes, this is true: my love for all things superhero is epic! Whether it be in comic or movie form, and I do love me my comic-adapted movies! I lean towards Marvel, not as a general rule but because they just have more characters that I'm able to identify with, though I was really grooving on the independent for a while, especially with Top Cow's Witchblade (while Christina Z still wrote it), Fathom (while Michael Turner was still at Top Cow, God rest him) and Rising Stars (suspiciously like Heroes but, meh, Straczynski's a douche so if they did rip him off, I don't feel all that bad about it).

I'm sure someone of the Freudian school could babble on about empowerment fantasies, the fact that comic characters are allowed to be smarter and more realistically socially inept than characters in fiction generally are. I've no doubt this is all true, but it has more to do with heart than that. And some fantastically outlandish storylines!

Supernatural

"Get ready to run, Jean is coming!"

What can I say about Supernatural? I've always been drawn to the paranormal, so when I saw an ad for the show on the WB (back when it was the WB) I decided to give it a chance. Boy, did that work out! Four seasons later, it still keeps my glued to the TV in a way very few series before it have. Yes, I could include something about the attractiveness of the stars, but that's such a small part of fandom for me--I'm a rare beast in that I'm neither a Sam nor a Dean girl, I like 'em both equally.

I do have to note the excellent villains and guest characters, especially the roles women take on; Lenore, in her one appearance has managed to weasel her way into my heart as one of my all-time favorite characters, and I think it best I not expound on my love for Doc Benton because that's just weird and sick. the writers aren't too afraid to "go there" in terms of stories, even if they do or don't work out (angels?! If you'd told me that a year ago, I would have laughed in your face!) and that's an important trait to have.

Look at the man, look at him! Does this need explaining?! Okay, so you see, I have this thing about men's hands and wrists, nice and slender, graceful, artistic, and his are freaking amazing! Not to mention--and this is something I don't usually particularly go for with guys--those beautiful, soulful brown eyes. and he's a fantastic actor, too, which always helps!

I unabashedly love fantasy and the Arthurian myths and so when this came along it was a given I would watch. I just didn't expect it to be this good! The writing got better and stronger as the series went on, and it left me gasping for more bu the end. I love the revisions they made, reinventing the myths--really, isn't that what doing a new Arthur story is all about? Mists of Avalon is a classic now and considered, strangely to me, to be Arthurian canon by most, which makes me feel incredibly old as I still remember the waves it caused, and the outrage! Isn't the only reason for doing anything having something new to say about it? and this show does, taking from both medieval and pagan stories, blending them seamlessly and without making me cringe.

Oh yeah, and then there's this:

A pretty, pretty cast all around. What more could a gal ask for?!

T4
Photobucket

Er, I'm hoping this meant my sister's book and not the Nazi program it was named for, Tiergartenstrasse 4! ;-P Railing against the little known Nazi atrocity of euthanizing disabled citizens, this young adult novel told in free form verse tells the story of Paula, a young, deaf German girl who goes on the run once T4 is enacted. Go out, buy it! Trust me, it's a great read!
