Very much like that, actually. In my experience, at least!

And catching up on some [livejournal.com profile] fannish5 questions:

Name the five best uses of flashback/non-linear storytelling. Hum, I kind of stuck to single episodes here, because I could just say LOST and that would own all, truly, because it is the granddaddy of all nonlinear storytelling, in my opinion.

- "Out of Gas", Firefly The slow unraveling of Mal's story, of why he's thinking what he is and how he got in the condition he's in is only one part of the unique storytelling; obviously the most compelling is the flashbacks of how each crew member came to be on Serenity. And it doesn't let the viewer down for a second, even packs in some surprises!

- "The Incident", LOST Enter: Jacob. Probably made the list because it was the last new episode, and so it's still fresh in my mind, but every once and a while when they break from the conventional flashback storytelling to add a little something different, like Jacob touching each of the main characters' lives just makes it extremely compelling.

- "Man of Science, Man of Faith", LOST Enter: the Hatch, and Desmond, and the shock of finding out that one is inside the other. A beautiful flow of storytelling in the nontraditional format, it keep the viewer on their toes but never leaves them in the lurch. I still recall the exact sensation of the shock I felt, and that's good TV!

- "Tall Tales", Supernatural Of course, the story here is that for most of the episode, the flashbacks are told from one or the other brothers' point of view and so they're a little... er, biased. Which leads to hi-larity! We even get to see the same flashback through each of the brothers' eyes, and yet the story never drags or suffers from it. It's not just a gimmick, it's actually the perfect device to tell this particular story.

- "A Constellation of Doubt", Farscape One of the most unusual pieces of storytelling ever.A documentary about the Moya crew's visit to Earth slowly and subtlety begins to warp into something different, something meant to guide not the audience but main character Crichton. It's a one of a kind, this episode, and something very special, and not just for the marvelous cameos it makes use of or the unused footage from the earth episodes it utilizes so very, very well!

Name 5 minor characters you wish had more screen time.

- Henry Spencer, Psych Just once, I'd like to see Corbin get to do something really juicy on the show. I know it's a cliche, but I'd love to see Henry and Shawn really partnered up for an episode, solve a crime, father and son style. They've come close, but never really embraced the concept.

- Bail Organa, Star Wars: The Clone Wars Oh, c'mon now, George, throw us Bail fans a small bone! Obi Wan served with him, and that's good enough for me to assume he should be a regular on the Clone Wars cartoon series. Plus, Bail's just awesome, it's a fact, I know these things!

- Alex Rousseau, LOST She and her mother were kind of queens of the under appreciated. We waited seasons with only a peek of Alex and then she starts really cooking, and could have fit so well into the main cast in my opinion, and she gets killed! No fairsies! Of course, with the rest, who knows what's going to happen...

- Deacon, Supernatural So much potential! An amazing actor and a character that you just instinctively want to know more about. But they've shoved John aside, and so go his friend, except for Bobby. Definitely deserves some exploring!

- Leah Clearwater, Twilight Leah's probably the most unusual character in the Twilight saga, especially as female characters go; her problems and fears are completely unique and compelling (when she's not just being a bitch). I'd definitely like to see more of her in the future; there are so many questions left unanswered for her!

And once more with this: Answer the questions using only episode titles.
