11th Doctor announcement?

Okay, I have a need to know! First person on my flist who knows, all you wonderful UKers out there, I beg of you: enlighten me! I know Patterson Joseph is the favorite at the mo, and he'd be fab but I need absolute positive (or negative) confirmation!

*Is even too excited to squee!*

Is a 26 year old actor with limited experience (from what I can see checking imdb.com) called Matt Smith. I've never heard of him, but he's been in the Sally Lockhart things and Secret Diary of a Call Girl with Billie Piper so I'm being cynical and guessing that has a lot to do with him getting the part. :/

I just looked him up and saw that. Sigh. I was really, really hoping for an older actor (I have to admit, I knew it wasn't true but I really, really liked those Robert Carlyle rumors :-/)

He's... a good actor, just not Doctor material in my opinion. I remain optimistic, though; it's just my nature.

I was hoping for someone older, too. I really want to see a Doctor with some gravitas, but they seem determined to pander to the youth market.
