This song is SO Christmas to me. But if you really, really listen... it's so DARK. Especially when Bono wails out, "just thank God it's them instead of you!" Wow. Thanks. LOL!
Hehe, defintiely the only Christmas song with the lyric, "The Christmas bells that ring out are the clanging chimes of doom," in it! Some say Bob Geldolf overdid it a little--I'm not contesting that, heh! But he certainly... gets his message across! xP
LOL, yeah, that line's a classic right there. :p And that was back when AWARENESS! was the thing. And no matter how nasty they had to get to make people notice, they would. At least it's not "Christmas Shoes". *shudders!*
Oh my God! "Christmas Shoes!" That song is so LULZY, and then I feel like I'm going to hell for laughing at it, but it's just so chock full of misery, it's comical! I always laugh when he croons, "That's what Christmas is all about," and I turned to my brother, outraged and upset, and said, "How is this possibly what Christmas is all about?!" In one of his more brilliant moment, he actually answered, "Um, imprudent purchases?" Bwahahahahahaha!
Yeah, according to that song, Christmas = Shopping + Jesus. Which just PISSES ME THE HELL OFF! Because to commercialize misery and a belief in God at the same time just makes me want to... Let's just say I get why Jesus tossed some tables around once upon a time, because it is ridiculous and awful. *huffs and gets off the soapbox*
The first time I heard it, I was in a clothing store, half listening while I shopped. I stopped suddenly and ran to find my mom and said to her, "ARE YOU HEARING THIS!? This is so awful! What is this!?" And she was like, "I don't know. I just want it to stop." Seriously, I don't know one person who reacts positively to that song. O_O
