On Hurley and Libby:
Libby's an anomolous character, isn't she? Unlike the rest of the major "tailies," we haven't seen or really heard anything of her background. We're told she's a psychiatrist, that she's an optimist, the kind of gal that can take lemons and make lemonade, to quote creator Damon Lindelof. Contradictory is the blurb that she's a compulsive liar with a secret. And Hurley thought he recognized her.
Huley's been in an instituation, we all know that from epsiode Numbers, among others, though that is particularly of interest as they played it just last week instead of a rerun from this season, as they have been doing. Could it be that Hurley recognizes her from the nut house? Was she really a psychiatrist or is this pathological liar business true and can she be assuming the guise of something or someone familiar, like, say, one of the doctors that treated her?
An upcoming press release for the Sayid-centric episode One of Them has this to say:
Meanwhile, Sawyer discovers Hurley’s potentially devastating breech of the survivors’ trust and blackmails him into helping track an elusive island creature that won’t leave Sawyer alone.
Could Libby, or a secret involving her and his recognition of her, be that breech of trust? For a long time now, I've been trying to come to terms with the two very different descriptions of her character: optimist or pathological liar. Maybe she's both. Maybe Hurley knows she harmless but knows it would make her seem suspicious. Hmmm...
Peace, Ghani
