Incredible! As Mr. Adams would say, though without the sarcasm in this case, heh. I first watched the movie way back when I was in fifth grade and I'll always remember how I just thought it was fun or funny or light and then the serious numbers started coming up and it was wonderfully heart-wrenching! People don't think of Northerners as having sensitive or gentile constitutions but I remember when Molasses to Rum came up and it genuinely shocked me. I think I asked my teacher afterward, "Is that true?!"

Is there a song in the history of Broadway musicals that tackles such a complex political and economic issue, let alone makes it comprehensible and sells it so successfully as great drama?
