Well, not the first day of the fair itself, that was yesterday but since its a school day and all the snot-nosed brats, I mean, cuddly little angels are about, the "true" faire goer waits until the weekend.
Got up early (for me) this morning, around 9:30; actual faire arrival time: 11:05. We walked in to see the first part of what is now a three act living chessboard match (my favorite part, I must admit, of the faire); this year's theme is back to Robin Hood and I was glad to see a man in tights and feathered hat. Honestly, I do like it when they get creative but the classics are always the best! Hoping to catch the other two parts either tomorrow or next weekend.
Well, we walked, we talked, my sis snapped a couple of pics of me (I was looking quite snazzy today and proving that you don't need a bodice for maximum cleavage, heh!). We ate -I had Dominoes pizza, not very faire-y but it was good. Will try one of the local booths the next couple of times I go.
And we saw Faire Wynds, for my money the best faire act I've seen in ages. A family (though the son wasn't there yet but I saw his act last year with the bed of nails and their daughter was who I hadn't seen so: goodness. Their daughter's one of only four sword walkers in the country and one of only two that will go back down the ladder of blades after walking up it. It's impressive, trust me!
Got my tarot read and the woman couldn't have been more eerily accurate! She told me I'm involved in the arts somehow (my writing) and that I take much pride in it and that it will pay off soon! The cards were very clear. I ended up with FOUR Arcana and no word on the business or social front which I explained to her afterwards, as she was semi-taken aback by it, that I was, in fact, agoraphobic. The cards told of my past trials conquered, that I have insomnia and worry over those I love who have passed away recently, that I think of myself as caring loyal and steady and that my friends see that I am improving as a person day by day! My top card was the Magician, which spoke of deep spirituality and a little of everything mentioned; she mentioned that I may be able to "perceive" moreso than others without knowing how deeply I'm into both Wicca and the study of parapsychology! The whole thing just clicked!
Lovely day, today!
Peace, Ghani

on 2006-01-28 08:28 pm (UTC)I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the faire, which sunds like so much fun - wish I could go withya!
I've been wanting to tell you....I've been reading up on Wicca, and well, really liking what I am reading; because several things are striking a wonderful accord within me, especially the connection with nature and the duality, balance, and gentleness of spiritual faith. We need to talk about this one of these days. I am all ears and very interested!

Bwahaha, I don't think Gainesville is quite ready for that, hehe ;-) Especially if we went a bit too heavy on the "ale." There are some fine lookin' men, there let me tell you!

Most definitely! :-D I'm a solitary practitioner cos, well, mainly I found the same things wrong with covens as I do in other organized religions though I am in no way discouraging you from seeking out one if you want to talk with them cos there are really good ones out there!!! :-)

on 2006-01-29 07:32 pm (UTC)My two favorite books are:
Celtic Myth & Magick: Harness the Power of the Gods and Goddesses
by Edain McCoy (if you're looking to follow a Gaelic/Welsh/Briton discipline)
And the always dependable:
The Witches' Goddess: The Feminine Principle of Divinity
by Janet & Stewart Farrar (any of their books are quite good actually but they can be a bit... old fashioned)
